The development comes as Italy has deployed a naval vessel off the coast of Crete to safeguard its citizens participating in the mission, escalating the international response.

The flotilla, carrying humanitarian aid and activists bound for Gaza, has drawn widespread attention amid rising tensions over maritime security and the treatment of civilian convoys in the Mediterranean.

EU representatives warn that failure to act could endanger lives and undermine Europe’s commitment to international law and freedom of navigation.

Further details are expected as governments and EU institutions coordinate their next steps.
