BREAKING: Major breach hits France’s National Bank account database

A massive data breach has compromised France’s national bank account registry (FICOBA), potentially exposing information linked to 1.2 million accounts.

The government database—containing records on more than 80 million individuals—stores sensitive financial and personal data, including account numbers, names, addresses, and in some cases tax identification numbers.

French authorities say the attacker gained access by impersonating a civil servant with legitimate credentials used in interministerial data exchanges.

Despite being disclosed in February, the incident has drawn little public attention—raising concerns about transparency and the scale of potential risk.

Authorities have not yet confirmed the full extent of the damage or how the stolen data may be used.
