U.S. Authorities Investigate theft of high-capacity spraying drones in New Jersey

U.S. federal authorities have launched an investigation following the theft of 15 high-capacity industrial drones from a facility in New Jersey last month, in what officials describe as a highly coordinated operation.
According to sources familiar with the case, the drones are capable of dispersing liquid substances over wide areas, a feature typically used in agriculture and industrial applications. However, concerns have been raised about the potential for misuse if the equipment were to fall into the wrong hands.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is leading the investigation and working alongside local and state law enforcement agencies. Officials have not publicly identified any suspects but indicated that the nature of the theft suggests planning and technical knowledge.
Law enforcement sources say the agency is taking the situation seriously due to the drones’ capabilities. While there is no indication of an immediate threat, authorities are assessing potential risks and monitoring for any signs of unauthorized use.
Experts note that such drones are widely used in sectors like agriculture for crop spraying, but their dual-use nature has increasingly drawn attention from security agencies.
The FBI has urged anyone with information related to the theft to come forward as the investigation continues.
