ANKARA — Türkiye’s Second Communication Council opened in Ankara on Tuesday with the participation of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, bringing together government officials, academics, media professionals, private sector representatives and civil society leaders to discuss the future of the country’s communication policies.

Held under the theme “Century of Türkiye: The Century of Communication,” the two-day event is organised by the Presidency’s Directorate of Communications and aims to help shape a long-term framework for Türkiye’s communication strategy.

The opening ceremony took place at ATO Congresium, where President Erdoğan attended the event and Head of Communications Prof. Dr. Burhanettin Duran delivered the opening address. The Council will continue on Wednesday with panel discussions and thematic sessions at the Directorate of Communications Conference Hall.

The forum focuses on evaluating Türkiye’s current communication policies, identifying challenges facing the sector and developing recommendations to strengthen public communication and media strategy. Representatives from public institutions, academia, the media, the private sector and civil society are exchanging views on emerging trends, strategic priorities and policy implementation.

According to the Directorate of Communications, the Council seeks to establish a practical framework for the Türkiye Communication Model, in line with the country’s broader Century of Türkiye vision. Discussions are expected to contribute to the development of future public communication policies while fostering cooperation among key stakeholders.

The event also showcases the results of an extensive preparatory process launched in January 2025. During a two-day workshop, 16 working groups comprising 425 participants produced a series of policy recommendations that have been compiled into the Second Communication Council Reports and Second Communication Council Proceedings, both of which are being presented during the Council.

A final declaration, reflecting recommendations developed throughout the event, is expected to be released at the conclusion of the Council.

Officials say the gathering is intended to provide a comprehensive platform for assessing Türkiye’s communication landscape and producing policy recommendations that will guide the country’s communication strategy in the years ahead.
