UK to Splash Billions on Weapons Factories and Warships in Bold Warning to Putin

Britain is set to pump more than £3 billion into its defence sector as part of a dramatic push to prepare for a potential war with Russia, Defence Secretary John Healey revealed.

The sweeping new strategy will see six new weapons factories spring up across the country, a revival of Royal Navy shipbuilding, and a bolstering of anti-missile defences—all aimed at beefing up the UK’s military muscle.

The ambitious plan, to be unveiled in full on Monday, also includes a major investment in long-range weaponry and new housing for service personnel. Ministers are even said to be eyeing up American fighter jets capable of launching tactical nuclear weapons.

“This is about sending a clear message to Moscow,” Healey said. “We’re not just strengthening our Armed Forces—we’re rebuilding Britain’s defence industry from the ground up. We will be ready to fight, if needed.”

The shake-up comes amid mounting fears over Russia’s continued aggression in Ukraine and growing concerns across Europe about the state of its military readiness.

It also marks one of the biggest defence overhauls in decades, as the UK joins allies in ramping up efforts to deter further Kremlin escalation.
