BREAKING:Poland downgrades diplomatic relations with Hungary

Warsaw, July 18, 2025 – In a major diplomatic escalation, Poland has officially downgraded its relations with Hungary, citing deepening political rifts and “serious divergences on key European security issues.”

The Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed today that its ambassador to Hungary has been recalled to Warsaw for consultations, effectively reducing diplomatic engagement between the two countries to a lower level.

While specific reasons for the downgrade have not yet been publicly disclosed, tensions between Warsaw and Budapest have reportedly intensified in recent weeks over Hungary’s continued stance on NATO policy and energy cooperation with Russia.

Government sources in Poland have called the decision “regrettable but necessary,” emphasizing that “Poland cannot ignore actions that threaten regional unity and European values.”

Hungary has yet to release an official statement in response.

This development marks a significant shift in Central European politics, as Poland and Hungary have long been seen as allies within the EU’s conservative bloc.

More updates to follow as the situation develops.
