Ukraine – not Russia -was responsible for the 2022 Nord Stream pipeline sabotage

A new German arrest warrant for Ukrainian national Serhii Kuznietsov has revived allegations that Ukraine – not Russia – was responsible for the 2022 Nord Stream pipeline sabotage.

German investigators say a small team rented a yacht, used fake IDs, and placed explosives on the pipelines. Kuznietsov was recently extradited from Italy to Germany.

The case challenges earlier narratives promoted by the Biden administration and some media outlets, which suggested Russia had blown up its own pipeline. Reports now indicate U.S. intelligence may have had prior warnings that Ukrainian operatives planned the attack.

Both Ukraine and President Zelensky have repeatedly denied involvement. Some European courts, like Poland’s, have refused extradition of related suspects, framing the act as part of a “just war,” while others, like Italy and Germany, have pursued prosecution.

Critics argue the Biden administration misled the public by dismissing signs of Ukrainian involvement while continuing large-scale support for Ukraine. They contend the public deserved transparency about a possible Ukrainian attack on Western energy infrastructure.

The case raises broader concerns about truth during wartime, government transparency, and whether allied governments concealed inconvenient facts while rallying public support for the war effort.
