US and Iran Reach Peace Agreement After Intensive Talks, Pakistan Says

LONDON- The United States and Iran have reached a landmark peace agreement following intensive diplomatic negotiations, according to an announcement by Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, raising hopes for a significant de-escalation of tensions across the Middle East.
In a statement released on Sunday, Sharif said both Washington and Tehran had agreed to the “immediate and permanent termination of military operations on all fronts,” including in Lebanon, following weeks of behind-the-scenes mediation efforts involving several regional powers.
“The Peace Deal between the United States of America and the Islamic Republic of Iran has been reached,” Sharif said. “Both sides have declared the immediate and permanent termination of military operations on all fronts.”
According to the Pakistani leader, the formal signing ceremony is scheduled to take place in Switzerland on June 19, where representatives of both countries are expected to finalize the agreement in the presence of international mediators.
The announcement marks a potentially historic breakthrough after months of heightened tensions and military confrontations that had raised concerns of a wider regional conflict. While details of the agreement have not yet been made public, the accord is expected to establish a framework for reducing hostilities and opening channels for further diplomatic engagement.
Sharif credited several countries for helping facilitate the negotiations, including Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye. He praised Qatar’s leadership for its role in mediation efforts and thanked Riyadh and Ankara for what he described as their “immense contributions” toward achieving the agreement.
The Pakistani prime minister also noted that a series of preparatory meetings would take place in the coming days. These discussions are expected to focus on implementation mechanisms, verification procedures and technical arrangements ahead of the official signing ceremony.
Diplomatic sources said the upcoming talks will aim to transform the political agreement into a comprehensive roadmap for long-term stability, with working groups expected to address security, regional cooperation and confidence-building measures.
The development has been welcomed by observers as a potentially transformative moment for the region, where years of tensions between Washington and Tehran have fueled instability, disrupted trade routes and heightened security concerns.
