12 Countries Condemn Israeli Strikes on Syria, Demand Withdrawal of Forces
DOHA, Aug. 21, 2026 — The foreign ministers of 12 countries, including Türkiye, Qatar and Saudi Arabia, have strongly condemned Israeli airstrikes on the Abu al-Duhur military airbase in northwestern Syria, calling the attacks a serious escalation and a violation of Syria’s sovereignty.
In a joint statement issued in Doha on Friday, the ministers said the strikes violated Syria’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and political unity, warning that continued Israeli military action could further destabilize the region.
The statement was signed by the foreign ministers of Qatar, Türkiye, Algeria, Indonesia, Jordan, Lebanon, Malaysia, Mauritania, Pakistan, Palestine, Saudi Arabia and Somalia.
The ministers expressed concern over what they described as the continued targeting and degradation of Syrian territory and infrastructure, saying such actions risk undermining Syria’s efforts to restore security, rebuild national institutions and address the humanitarian consequences of years of conflict.
They also warned that Israel’s continued violations of Syrian territory could further escalate regional tensions, undermine peace and stability, and weaken respect for international law and the UN Charter.
The ministers called on the international community to adopt a “firm, clear and principled position” and take concrete measures to end what they described as violations against Syria.
They also called for full respect for the 1974 Disengagement Agreement between Syria and Israel and demanded the withdrawal of Israeli forces from areas they have occupied.
The statement reaffirmed the ministers’ support for Syria’s sovereignty, independence, territorial integrity and political unity, while rejecting any efforts to undermine them.
