Breaking News: UK Summons Iranian Ambassador Over Espionage Charges

London, 19 May 2025 — The UK Government has summoned the Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the United Kingdom, His Excellency Seyed Ali Mousavi, following serious national security concerns.

UK police charge three Iranians with suspected espionage

The men were charged with engaging in conduct likely to assist a foreign intelligence service, police said.

In a statement released today, a spokesperson for the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) confirmed the diplomatic action:
“Today, upon instruction from the Foreign Secretary, the Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the United Kingdom was summoned to the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office. His Excellency Seyed Ali Mousavi was summoned in response to three Iranian nationals charged under the National Security Act.”

The charges relate to conduct allegedly aimed at assisting a foreign intelligence service. Over the weekend, UK authorities announced that three individuals had been formally charged for actions “likely to assist a foreign intelligence service” — reportedly tied to Iran.

“The UK Government is clear that protecting national security remains our top priority and Iran must be held accountable for its actions,” the spokesperson added.

This move signals escalating tensions between London and Tehran and reflects growing concern over foreign interference and espionage activities on British soil.
