BREAKING NEWS: UK, France, and Canada Condemn Israel’s “Wholly Disproportionate” Escalation in Gaza
LONDON / PARIS / OTTAWA — In a rare and coordinated diplomatic move, the United Kingdom, France, and Canada have issued a scathing joint statement condemning what they describe as Israel’s “wholly disproportionate” escalation of military operations in Gaza.
The three nations expressed grave concern over the worsening humanitarian crisis in the region, calling Israel’s recent announcement to allow limited food aid into Gaza “wholly inadequate” and demanding the immediate and unrestricted flow of humanitarian assistance in coordination with the United Nations.
“The level of human suffering in Gaza is intolerable,” the statement reads. “We call on the Israeli Government to stop its military operations in Gaza and immediately allow humanitarian aid to enter.”
The statement also included a strong rebuke of recent remarks by Israeli officials, calling them “abhorrent,” and warned that threats of permanent forced displacement could amount to breaches of international humanitarian law.
While reaffirming Israel’s right to self-defense following the October 7 Hamas attacks, the joint message emphasized that the current military campaign has crossed a line:
“This escalation is wholly disproportionate. We will not stand by while the Netanyahu Government pursues these egregious actions.”
The three allies warned of potential consequences, including “further concrete actions” and “targeted sanctions,” if Israel fails to halt its offensive and settlement expansions in the West Bank, which they labeled “illegal” and a threat to peace.
The statement endorsed ongoing diplomatic efforts by the United States, Qatar, and Egypt to secure an immediate ceasefire and hostage release, and reaffirmed their collective commitment to a two-state solution, including the potential recognition of a Palestinian state.
This sharp pivot by key Western allies marks one of the most direct criticisms of Israel by its traditional supporters since the conflict escalated, adding new urgency to international calls for a ceasefire and long-term political resolution.
