No More Masks at Protests’: Trump Cracks Down on Demonstrators in Los Angeles

Former President Donald Trump has sparked fresh controversy after declaring that protesters in Los Angeles will no longer be allowed to wear masks, accusing demonstrators of hiding their identities and stirring chaos.

Posting early Sunday morning on Truth Social, Trump praised the National Guard for doing “a job well done” after being deployed to control the unrest in the city.

“These Radical Left protests, by instigators and often paid troublemakers, will NOT BE TOLERATED,” Trump wrote in his trademark all-caps style. “Also, from now on, MASKS WILL NOT BE ALLOWED to be worn at protests. What do these people have to hide, and why???”

The 45th president also took a swipe at California’s Democrat leaders, blaming Governor Gavin Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass for being “unable” to “handle the task.”

The dramatic move comes as tensions remain high in LA following days of demonstrations. Trump’s remarks are already drawing backlash from civil rights groups, who argue that banning masks could infringe on free speech and public health protections.
