The United Nations Human Rights Office has issued a stark and urgent report stating that 798 people have been killed while attempting to access humanitarian aid in Gaza since the end of May.

The deaths come amid ongoing conflict and a deepening humanitarian crisis in the region. UN officials described the toll as “devastating” and said many of the casualties occurred in or near areas where aid was being distributed or where desperate civilians had gathered in hopes of receiving food, water, and medical supplies.

“This tragic figure highlights the unimaginable dangers faced by civilians simply trying to survive,” a spokesperson for the UN Human Rights Office said Thursday. “International humanitarian law must be respected, and civilians must never be targeted or put in harm’s way while accessing aid.”

The report has drawn international condemnation and renewed calls for an immediate ceasefire, humanitarian corridors, and unimpeded access for aid organizations.
