Iran and Pakistan sign landmark Cooperation Agreements to boost trade and technology

TEHRAN/ISLAMABAD — In a significant step toward deepening regional cooperation, Iran and Pakistan have signed a series of major bilateral agreements aimed at strengthening economic ties, enhancing technological collaboration, and accelerating regional trade.
The strategic accords, signed during a high-level delegation visit, include critical provisions to facilitate the overland movement of Pakistani exports to Europe and Russia through Iranian territory. This new trade corridor is expected to significantly cut transportation time and costs, providing a faster alternative to traditional sea routes.
Officials from both sides hailed the agreements as a “turning point” in regional connectivity and cooperation. The trade volume between the two neighbors is now set to expand substantially, with a mutual goal of reaching $10 billion in annual bilateral trade in the coming years.
Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian emphasized the importance of the partnership in a joint press conference:
“These agreements not only reflect the mutual trust between our nations but also mark the beginning of a new era of economic integration and technological cooperation in the region.”
Pakistan’s Commerce Minister, Jam Kamal Khan, echoed the sentiment, stating:
“Iran is a natural gateway for our exports to Central Asia, Europe, and beyond. With this framework in place, we can now expedite shipments that would otherwise take weeks by sea.”
As part of the cooperation, both countries also agreed to intensify collaboration in high-tech industries, including digital infrastructure, energy innovation, and joint industrial ventures. A joint task force will oversee implementation and ensure that projects under the new framework begin without delay.
Analysts say the agreements could also strengthen the China-Iran-Pakistan regional axis under the Belt and Road Initiative, giving added impetus to intra-Asian connectivity and reducing reliance on external trade corridors.
The new partnership underscores a broader geopolitical shift toward regional self-reliance, amid shifting global alliances and growing economic pressures.
