Amsterdam’s City Council. ”Maccabi Tel Aviv “unwelcome” in the city”

Amsterdam’s City Council has voted to declare Israeli football club Maccabi Tel Aviv “unwelcome” in the city, citing concerns over fan behavior and alleged support for “genocide” amid the ongoing Gaza conflict.

The decision, passed with strong majority support, follows violent clashes in November 2024 after a Europa League match between Maccabi Tel Aviv and Ajax Amsterdam.

During the unrest, Maccabi supporters were filmed tearing down Palestinian flags, making racist anti-Arab chants, and assaulting individuals, including a taxi driver. These actions led to hospitalizations and over 60 arrests, with five men later convicted for their involvement in the violence.
