Amazon to robotize…

Amazon is accelerating its automation plans, aiming to robotize 75% of its operations, which could displace more than 600,000 employees. Internal documents reveal the company intends to avoid hiring 160,000 U.S. workers by 2027, saving roughly 30 cents per item processed.

Despite projections of doubled sales by 2033, Amazon’s robotics team expects workforce growth to remain stagnant.

In Shreveport, Louisiana, Amazon’s advanced warehouse already employs 1,000 robots, cutting human staff by 25% last year.

The company anticipates halving its workforce there by 2027 and plans to replicate similar automation across 40 other facilities, including a new warehouse in Virginia Beach.

At its Stone Mountain, Georgia, facility, 1,200 fewer employees will process 10% more items after a planned retrofit.

Amazon is expected to rely more heavily on temporary workers as part of the shift. Internal communications describe the automation push as a “major milestone” to flatten the company’s hiring curve over the next decade.

The $10 billion automation initiative is projected to generate $12.6 billion in savings between 2025 and 2027.

CEO Andy Jassy’s efficiency-driven strategy has raised concerns about widespread job displacement.

Economists warn that Amazon may become a net job destroyer rather than a creator. Meanwhile, local job seekers report a lack of opportunities at affected facilities, unaware of the company’s long-term workforce reduction plans.
