Lawyers For Justice Ireland: “It is time to leave the EU”
Lawyers for Justice Ireland Criticise EU Gender Identity Proposals
Dublin-Lawyers for Justice Ireland (LFJI) has strongly criticised proposals contained in the European Commission’s LGBTIQ+ Equality Strategy 2026–2030, claiming that the measures would undermine Irish law and children’s rights.
According to the group, the Commission’s strategy includes provisions for the legal recognition of gender identity without age restrictions. LFJI argues that such a move would allow minors to change their gender “at any time and at will,” a policy the organisation says would fail to protect children and could expose them to harm.
In a statement, LFJI said the proposal “is in direct contravention of the laws of this country, principally our Constitution,” and insisted that “the EU has neither right nor authority to override the fundamental rights of Irish men, women and children.”
The group further contends that the proposal breaches Article 24 of the European Charter of Fundamental Rights, which prioritises the best interests of the child in all decisions affecting them.
Describing the European Union as “a corrupt organisation” that “has no respect for the sovereignty of its Member States,” LFJI said it believes Ireland should consider leaving the EU altogether.
The European Commission’s LGBTIQ+ Equality Strategy 2026–2030 aims to advance equality and non-discrimination across the bloc. It includes proposed measures related to gender recognition, anti-discrimination laws, and the protection of LGBTIQ+ rights in member states.
The Commission has not yet responded to LFJI’s comments.
