Armenia Set to Begin Imports of Azerbaijani Fuel, Georgian Transit Fees Waived
Armenia is preparing to import fuel from Azerbaijan for the first time, marking a notable development in the region’s evolving political and economic landscape.
Armenian Economy Minister announced that Georgia will not levy any duty on the one-time transit of Azerbaijani oil products bound for Armenia. According to the minister, the decision is viewed as “a gesture in the peace process from the Georgian side,” signaling support for ongoing normalization efforts in the South Caucasus.

When asked about the expected arrival date of the first shipment of Azerbaijani fuel, the minister declined to provide specifics.
“The time will come, and you will know everything,” he said, suggesting that operational details will be released at a later stage.

The upcoming fuel imports would represent a rare instance of direct economic engagement between Armenia and Azerbaijan following years of tension, and could serve as a further indicator of thawing relations in the region.
