US Marine General Urges Constant Readiness Amid Rising Global Tensions

Lieutenant General Leonard F. Anderson Jr., who leads both Marine Forces Reserve and Marine Forces South, described the current moment as “consequential” for U.S. national security. In a message directed at Marines, he emphasized that evolving global events are actively shaping the country’s security environment and require immediate preparedness.

Anderson challenged personnel to assess their readiness for rapid deployment, questioning whether their training, equipment, and personal affairs are in order. He stressed that readiness would not be questioned in a crisis but assumed, underscoring that it must be sustained daily rather than declared in words.

The general pointed to ongoing U.S. military involvement in operations linked to Iran and highlighted the strategic importance of maintaining stability in the Western Hemisphere. He warned that adversaries could exploit opportunities, raising the possibility of broader mobilization.

“This is not a theoretical exercise,” Anderson said, framing the current environment as one in which forces are already operating under real-world pressures.

He added that combat preparedness is built through consistent training, discipline, and accountability, noting that military effectiveness is judged by immediate capability rather than intention.

Calling for heightened standards, Anderson urged Marines to review their readiness, ensure their equipment is prepared for rapid movement, and organize their family responsibilities in anticipation of potential deployment.

The message concluded with a call for a disciplined and capable force ready for immediate action, reinforcing the role of the Marine Forces Reserve as a critical component of U.S. military preparedness.
