Bag containing firearms left outside London Mayor Sadiq Khan’s home
The bag was discovered on the pavement outside the property at around 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday evening. According to initial reports, the bag contained firearms and equipment used by officers assigned to the mayor’s protection team.
Police sources said the bag is believed to belong to the specialist officers responsible for Khan’s close protection. Investigators are examining how the equipment was left behind and whether proper security procedures were followed.
It is understood that up to five police officers who had been on duty in the area around the mayor’s residence may have been involved, and investigators are working to determine exactly who was responsible for the oversight.
The bag was reportedly noticed by a member of the public and quickly brought to the attention of the authorities. Officers later recovered the equipment and secured it without incident.
The Metropolitan Police have launched an internal inquiry to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and to review operational procedures for officers assigned to high-profile protection duties.
The incident has raised concerns about security protocols, particularly given that the equipment was left in a public area close to the residence of the capital’s mayor. Officials said the investigation will assess whether any disciplinary action or procedural changes are necessary.
