China Flood Disaster deepens as nearly 600,000 evacuated

Nearly 600,000 people have been evacuated in southeastern China as severe flooding continues to affect Fujian Province following days of torrential rain brought by Typhoon Saudel.

According to local authorities, 599,300 people have been moved from high-risk areas as floodwaters spread across parts of the province.

The heavy rainfall has caused widespread flooding and significant damage. In Huating Town in Putian, more than 100 houses have reportedly collapsed.

A dike also breached, sending floodwaters into nearby villages and leaving some residents trapped. Rescue teams have been using boats and other equipment to evacuate people from affected areas and move them to safety.

Authorities have activated a Level III flood-control emergency response, while rescue and evacuation operations continue.

Officials are warning residents in low-lying areas, along rivers and in locations vulnerable to landslides to remain alert as heavy rainfall continues.
